Tess

The alpha of the herd.

Born in 2002, Tess is a black mare Percheron.

Tess was the first horse that we rescued. For the first two months, before the others arrived, She was by herself, and felt lonely and confused. But Of course with a lot of patience and love she got more and more comfortable with her new home, and with us, and started to open up.

Tess is all black. And look very majestic, like the horses from "black beauty". She is a very large draft, about 16.5 hands, and weight probably close to 2000 pounds. She always eats the fastest, and goes crazy for food and snacks.

Tess is extremely wise and loving. We call her our spiritual horse, an "old soul" horse, as she seem to look at you right in the eye and understand what it is you need from her, or more so if you truly care for her, and if so, how much. She feels if a person near her is upset, as she is extremely sensitive to human feelings. She is gentle to her brothers and sisters, and to humans as well.

Tess is doing a great job as the lead alpha. She protects her sibling, play with them and instruct them when needed.

But as a good leader of a herd she also demands respect, with the right to eat first, drink first, and play with any new toys that look interesting.

She is playful, loves kisses and hugs, and in the hot summer days loves to take showers. However, she stays clean for only few minutes, as immediately after her shower she loves to roll in the mud.

We truly love Tess so very much, and are so happy and honored that she is in out lives.
