Willow
Second in command. Born in 2002, Willow is a grey Percheron mare. We rescued her from Canada where she was used for the creation of Premarin.
Willow is very beautiful. She has grey and white spots with white-eye lashes. She reminds us of the horse from the children's movie "Pipi Longstocking". She is the biggest horse in the herd (or anywhere), and stands about 17.5 hands, and weight over 2000 pounds.
Willow is very young at heart, and despite her abused past, still trusts humans and loves to be petted and kissed.
However, she is known to be extremely pushy, and uses her huge body and large head to push anyone or anything out of her way to get to food or treats. Because of her pushy habits we nicknamed her: "the head".
Willow also is a typical draft horse and always prefers the lazy life. She does not like to run or do any other exercise that requires her to actually lift up her massive legs or move too fast. However, on warm days, after a refreshing shower, she loves to play and run around the ranch with her brothers and sisters. She sprints fast, kicks and bucks. It is truly amazing to see how such a huge animal can be so light on her feet once she puts her mind to it. The trouble is, that those spurts of enthusiastic activity, last only few minutes before going back to her usual self; a couch potato! So we always try to enjoy it while we can.
Willow is very comfortable to be second in command of the herd, and probably thinks that being the alpha would require too much work and responsibility, something she is not willing to do.
Like our other beloved horses, our love for Willow is UNmeasurable, and we are honored to have her with us. |
